The original Huawei Watch is one of the most popular Android Wear devices and if you own a Huawei Watch 2 Sport Smartwatch, you will be amazed by its changes. With more features and function than its predecessor, the Huawei Watch 2 is also available in sports. Like sporty smartwatches? Huawei Watch 2 is going to be your next choice of smartwatch, its classy design and solid performance will attract more and more users to buy one.

The Huawei Watch 2 Smartwatch with more connectivity options, Android Wear 2.0 and a sporty new look, but with a smaller display and chunkier build, which feels like it's trying to have too many features but doesn’t fit in every area. And it’s now made good on its word with the performance of the Huawei Watch 2.

The Huawei Watch 2 comes in two models, the Sport and the Classic, which are nearly identical in specs and design. The Sport model has a different band, and its international variant comes with LTE connectivity.

Sporty design and a small screen

The Huawei Watch 2 Sport looks sportier than the LG Watch Sport, the first flagship watch that debuted alongside Android Wear 2.0 in February, but it’s far smaller thanks to its 1.2-inch AMOLED screen. There's a nice subtle curve to the underside of the watch that helps fit the contour of your wrist, and the textured rubber strap is reassuringly locked in place thanks to a chunky metal buckle.

In terms of colour options, Huawei offers the Watch 2 in three colours: Dynamic Orange, Carbon Black and Concrete Grey. The latter two are fairly similar in look, although with a key difference: the Concrete Grey Huawei Watch 2 has silver buttons, while the Carbon Black variant has black buttons. The Dynamic Orange colour option is also exclusive to the 4G variant of the Huawei Watch 2.

Long load times, but Android Wear 2.0 runs well

Android Wear offers a unified OS that smartwatch makers can’t tinker with, apart from adding their own apps. On the Huawei Watch 2, the experience is polished, and it runs well enough, thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 chip and the 768MB of RAM. Android Wear 2.0, a major revamp that overhauled the design of the OS, is a joy to use. Swipe down to access quick settings, and swipe up to move through your notifications.

Fitness features

Like many other smartwatches, the Watch 2 has a heavy focus on fitness, and aims to be your fitness companion, offering helpful states and professional fitness advice.

While the Watch 2 features preset exercises (cardio, fat burn, bike ride, etc) that you can select on-the-fly, you can also use the Huawei Health app on your smartphone to create your own custom workout plans based on your goals. It’ll coach you during your exercise, giving you stage guidance (warm up, high intensity, low intensity, etc), speed guidance, lap reminders and of course, goal process reminders and more.

The Huawei Watch 2 differentiates itself from the LG Watch Sport with more robust daily fitness statistics, and there’s a Workout app that launches tracking for select activities like indoor and outdoor cycling, running, and more.

Two button control, 2.0 software advances

The top button carries out your normal Android Wear actions: press it to return to the home screen or to your apps menu; a long press will launch Google Assistant, aiming to let you talk to your watch and get it doing things for you.

The bottom button as standard launches Huawei's sports app, simply called Workout. You can use that button to pause a workout, which is convenient, but you can also reprogram it to launch any app you choose.

Battery life

In terms of battery life, Huawei claims that the 4G-connected Watch 2 will last for two days on a single charge, while the non-4G variant will last an extra day with a three-day battery life with average use (both feature the same 420mAh battery).

If you're interested in Android Wear Smartwatches in general, the Huawei Watch 2 Sport will be your next choice. It is surprisingly accurate for the things it could track. In summary, the Huawei Watch 2 is a wonderful smartwatch with many new functions that work well in everyday life, which is no-doubt a huge improvement over the first-generation Huawei Sport Smartwatch.
